Ross Langdon started the New Year the way he finished the old by reeling off another win in a Gloucester and Somerset medal.

The Gloucester player burned up the Minchinhampton Old Course for his third triumph of the season. This time he won outright after sharing on previous winning days. His six-under-par 65 left Louis Boston (Windmill Golf Academy) and Paul Barrington (InPlay Golf) trailing by one shot.

After some very poor weather over the Christmas and New Year period the 24 players were blessed with benign and dry conditions for their first outing of 2016. The course was certainly playing its full yardage and long-hitting Langdon took advantage of his length to bring home victory.

He made an eagle, birdie start at the opening par fives and picked up another shot at the short third. He ended the opening half with further birdies at the seventh and ninth, sandwiched between his only bogey on the eighth.

He added another birdie at the par five 12th and has extended his lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

Newcomer Boston made seven birdies to take a share of the birdie sweep pot with Langdon. InPlay Golf owner Barrington has been unfazed by the wet weather as his indoor simulator facility on the Harbourside in Bristol has been busy whilst most other courses are closed or restricted.

The former world long-driving champion opened with a trio of birdies and added three more with just one bogey at the 11th. He also claimed the Over 40’s sweep money.

Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) secured fourth spot on 68, one stroke ahead of George Ryall (Players), Giuseppe Licata (Bristol Golf Centre) and England amateur international Josh Hilleard (Farrington Park), the fourth-placed amateur in the country.
