Ross Langdon was the only player to break par at Shirehampton Park as the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal season resumed after a disastrous run in March when three of the five scheduled events were cancelled because of the wet weather.
The Brickhampton Court professional made it a March double for he won two weeks earlier in the only previous event completed in the month at Tall Pines.
He achieved a two-shot success over the short but testing Bristol course with Andrew March (Brean), George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow) and Sherdons assistant Josh Davies sharing second on one over par 68.
Langdon, who finished third in the West Order of Merit ,last year to earn a Play-Off spot, has been working hard at his game over the last few months. He played consistency with birdies at the dogleg seventh and short 13th with a solitary dropped shot at the long par four 11th high above the Portway.
The greens had recovered well from recent maintenance work and further overnight heavy rain with only the third being too wet for play. This contributed to lower scoring than on previous visits.
West PGA chairman March was the early pace setter as he continued his improved form since the turn of the year. He chipped in for a birdie at the seventh and made two more at the 12th and 16th.
Davies shed four shots in the first six holes but recovered brilliantly. Four successive threes and two more birdies on the homeward run brought his best finish since his early season win at Brean.
Ryall picked up a shot at the seventh, sandwiched between two bogeys, and another bogey at the 13th came between birdies at 12 and 14.
Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) was one of five players returning 69 for a share of fifth. Paul Barrington (InPlay Golf), Daryl Kelley (Filton), Russ Berry (Broadway) and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) were the others.
Next week captain Licata leads the G&S PGA team against Devon PGA at Filton Golf Club in morning foursomes followed by 10 singles. Play starts at 8.30am and spectators are welcome.
