Late eagle sees O'Hara soar as he wins Arnold Clark Tour Championship at Gleneagles

13/10/2022

Paul O’Hara finished with a flourish to win the inaugural Arnold Clark Tour Championship at Gleneagles.

In an 18-hole Pro-Am shoot-out featuring the leading 10 players on the Tartan Tour’s Order of Merit – the 2022 No 1 Craig Lee was a late withdrawal – O’Hara came out on top with an eagle on the final hole over the King’s Course to post a two-under 68.

That gave the relentlessly consistent 35-year-old a one shot win over former Scottish PGA champion, Graham Fox, and earned him a cheque for £1000.

The blustery conditions in Perthshire added to the examination and it was O’Hara who harnessed the elements the best.

It was a tough test, though, and the Tartan Tour’s dominant force found himself one-over through 13 holes.

Like all fine champions, O’Hara, who was pipped to the Order of Merit crown this year by the aforementioned Lee, found another gear when it came to the crunch.

A birdie on the 14th was followed by a terrific three on the par-5 18th as O’Hara set a standard that nobody else could match.

Fox conjured a late flurry with a brace of birdies at the 14th and 17th to grab second while Chris Currie and Greig Hutcheon shared third on 70.
