Since turning pro two weeks ago, Craig Lawrie (above right) has figured in the prize list in the two Alliance competitions he has played in, finishing a close-up joint fourth at Ellon and joint second this week at Craibstone in the suburbs of Aberdeen.
Lawrie figured in a six-way tie for the clubhouse lead on one-over-par 70 until one of the last men to finish - in near darkness - Scotland amateur international Adam Dunton, who plays off +3 at Ellon - shot a brilliant three-under-par 66 to head a bumper field of 110 by four strokes.
There was a bonus for young Lawrie, although his dad, might put it in cold storage for a year or two!
He won the special prize of a bottle of whisky in the pro’s nearest the pin at the short 12th. The two he recorded there, from about six feet, was one of three birdies he marked up during the round. A double bogey six at the 11th would eventually deprive him of outright second place.
Sharing second place on 70 were two more from the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre stable, former British boys champion Jordan Findlay and Kris Nicol, Royal Aberdeen staff
pro Joel Hopwood and two amateurs, Craig Lawrie's cousin Sean Lawrie (Portlethen) and Newmachar's John Duff.
