Paul Lawrie, playing over his ‘home course’ of Deeside Golf Club - he lives at Bieldside, a couple of drivers away, shot a brilliant seven-under-par 63 to win the top pro prize of £1,283 in the Deeside Saltire Energy pro-am.

Lawrie, an honorary Deeside member, was first off the tee at 8am and he was able to set his own cracking pace.

He had an eagle three at the long sixth and birdies at the first, long third, seventh, eighth and ninth in covering the first nine holes in six-under-par 30, including a bogey at the second!

Lawrie eased off on the second nine with a birdie at the 15th and eighth pars for 33 home.

His 63 rivals any score over the Haughton Course but the back tees were not used so it won't stand as a course record.

Nevertheless it was Lawrie's best round for a long time.

Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) had 64s to finish joint second and earn £898 each. Fox had a bogey-free, six-birdie round while Hutcheon had two eagle threes - at the sixth and 13th - as well as birdies at the fourth, eighth and 14th. Hutch bogeyed the seventh.

Laura Murray and Heather MacRae played well for rounds of 70 and 71 respectively. Murray bogeyed the last which she looked set to break par while MacRae had a double bogey six at the second but an eagle three at the third.

Greg McBain (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), joint fourth individually, led the Paul Lawrie Foundation 2 team of Ross Bremner (7), Chris Leonard (7) and Hugh Smith (12) to victory in the pro-am team competition with a net two-ball total of 21-under-par 119.
