Lee strikes at Pyle and Kenfig

1411West James Lee

James Lee started the South Wales PGA season in style with a two-stroke success in the first medal at Pyle and Kenfig.

The Caerphilly regional chairman shot three-under-par 68, although he would have expected better after making his fifth birdie of the day at the 13th and picking up earlier shots at the second, fourth, ninth and tenth.

Bogeys at the 15th and 17th damaged his score, but his win was never in serious doubt and he landed the birdie sweep as well.

Newcomer Aneurin Brown, a former Tredegar Park junior captain and champion who has just signed on as a trainee at the club, marked his professional debut with an impressive 70 to take second place.

The former Gwent county amateur made a disappointing start with a bogey, but he quickly recovered with a birdie at the fourth and an eagle at the par five fifth.

He was out in two-under-par 34 but dropped two shots and made a birdie on the homeward run.

Kevin Davies (Virginia Park) carded 72 while Sion Bebb (Vale Hotel) and Sean Pearson (Pennard) returned 73s.

The next medal is at Ashburnham on November 27.
