Former winner Houston one off the pace

A trio of players are deadlocked one three-under-par 68 going into today's final  round of the Leeds Cup at Moortown.

And still in the mix are former Ryder Cup man Gordon Brand, who won professional golf's oldest trophy in 1988, and fellow Yorkshire-based professional Paul Carman, who prevailed four years later.

Evergreen David Shacklady (Mossock Hall) is among the front-runners in his quest to claim the one title that's missing from his impressive record.

Sharing pole position with him the 100th staging of the tournament, inaugurated in 1902, and are Disley's Scott Jackson and EuroPro Tour player Paul Grannell, from Cheshire resort Vale Royal.

And 2012 winner, Chester-based Welshman Garry Houston, with two victories under his belt this season, is ominously only one shot of the pace.

But defending champion Ben Mason, from Waterfront Golf, endured a bad day in the office as he posted a 77 as recent winners Steve Parry (Hart Common) and David Smith (Swinton Park) also missed the cut.
