The Voisin & Volaw PGA Channel Islands Challenge is set to return to Les Mielles Golf & Country Club, Jersey on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd October, with PGA Professionals playing tournament golf in Jersey.

The Channel Islands’ top amateurs will be able to test their skills against the best PGA pros, because the individual event is open to Category 1 handicap players as well. Competitors will play the first round of 18 holes at Les Mielles G&CC on Tuesday 21st October for the individual prize, providing a terrific opportunity for golf enthusiasts to both watch golfers of the highest standard test their skills around the challenging Les Mielles.

The second round of the tournament will be held in conjunction with 18-hole pro-am with a shotgun start. Open to local club amateur golfers as well, this is the best way to mix it with PGA Professional golfers and see first-hand how they use their expertise and experience to shoot the lowest score they can around the Les Mielles course.

The driving force behind it all is Les Mielles and Jersey Golf Coaching’s own PGA Professional Alex Mollin, above, a three-time Titleist PGA Assistant of the Year award winner. These events cannot happen without corporate generosity, and The PGA Channel Island Challenge is once again sponsored by the leading law firm Voisin and trust company Volaw, now for the third year running.

Last year’s winner, Michael Durcan, the young Irish professional now based at the Royal Guernsey Golf Club, will meet strong competition as he defends his title. Organiser Alex Mollin said: “I’m delighted we’re able to run this event for the third year running. In true Jersey style, it’s very relaxed and spectators – whether they play golf or not! – are very welcome.”

She continued: “I am really looking forward to what I think will prove to be another testing tournament for top golfers this year, and I’d particularly like to encourage elite amateurs as well as the PGA Pros to take on the Challenge. The pro-am event is a terrific way for local golfers to get up close and personal with top players, and get all kinds of tips that’ll improve their golf as well.”

Ian Strang, Managing Partner of the Voisin law firm, added: “The Voisin & Volaw PGA Channel Islands Challenge offers a rare opportunity for local amateurs to play alongside PGA Professionals. I am looking forward to playing on the second day of the tournament. It is a great achievement to put on such a prestigious competition and credit must go to Alex Mollin and her team for their hard work in setting up this tournament.”
