Jason Levermore ended 2013 in spectacular fashion as he claimed victory in the Christmas Fayre pro-am at Thorndon Park.
The Channels Golf Club pro secured the JV Cup after finishing with a seven-under-par round of 64 to prove that taking a head professional’s job has had no detrimental effect on his ability to shoot low scores.
One shot behind was Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) who is hoping to make it third time lucky in the PGA European Senior qualifying school on the Portuguese Algarve at the end of January.
John Judd (Centre Golf Hartswood) took third place after scoring a one-under-par 70, while Paul Barham (Stock Brook Country Club) finished fourth on level-par.
There was nothing to separate Colchester’s Mark Baker and Chris Cutchie who shared fifth place with 72. Mark Hooper (The Rayleigh Club), winner of the 2013 East Order of Merit, was seventh.
Michael Porter (Woolston Manor) led the winning team of Romford’s England under-16 international Louis Lazarus, Tom Carr and John Aldridge with 88 Stableford points.
One shot behind were Judd, John Samson, Kevin Stavers and Kevin Lye. Andy Pestell (Chelmsford), Henry Boorman, Phil Smith and James Allan were third with 85 points.
