A quick-fire double appearance in two of the UK’s most prestigious golf tournaments awaits PGA Professional Jason Levermore as the season finally gets underway.
After a scintillating 2013, which included victory in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship, Levermore has his eyes set on success in The PGA and the European Tour’s flagship events.
He will start with his debut in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship, where he will take part in the east regional qualifier at South Herts on May 7.
Should Levermore find his form and make it through the qualifying round, he will take his place among the finalists at the famous Blairgowrie for a shot at the £78,700 Peugeot-supported grand final on August 5-8.
“I’m really excited to get started,” he enthused. “I’ve never played in the Glenmuir before but I know that there will be a lot of good players there.
“It’s the flagship event for club professionals and I would definitely like to win it, although obviously the most important thing will be to focus on my own game and ensure I give the best performance I possibly can.
"Of course doing well can help you get a place in the PGA Cup team for next year too, which is an event I have always wanted to play in.”
Victory at South Herts would also provide a welcome confidence boost for the 34-year-old ahead of his fifth appearance in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on May 20-25.
“I qualified this year as I finished fifth in the PGA Play-Offs last November,” Levermore explained.
“I’ve played in the event a few times before and I absolutely love it! Last year I scored a hole-in-one on the Thursday morning and it felt amazing. I’ll never forget that moment.”
Essex pro Levermore will face an additional challenge this year, as he mixes playing commitments with his head professional position at Channels Golf Club.
It is this position, which he took up last May, that will give him the chance to take part in the PGA Professional Championship, as all players must work 25 hours per week in their respective clubs to be eligible for the competition.
And for Levermore it is also a great chance to follow in the footsteps of his father Stuart, who spent 20 years as head professional at Clacton Golf Club.
"Working in the club has given me a fresh challenge," Levermore reflected. "I'm really enjoying it and the extra commitments will keep me busy during the season.
“I love being around the club and they are so supportive of me, they really want we to do well on the course this year.”
Matthew Eagle, UK and Eire sales director at Glenmuir, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship, which is very well respected as the flagship event for PGA Professionals in Great Britain and Ireland.
“Once again the schedule promises to take in a number of outstanding courses, with Blairgowrie offering a fine venue for this year’s final in August, which is sure to be as intriguing as ever.”
“We look forward to another exciting tournament, and wish all the competitors the best of luck ahead of the event.”
Other golfers competing in the Glenmuir PGA Professional east regional qualifier include: Andrew Collison (Bungay), Craig Ferris (Luton Hoo), Michael Few (Weston Park), Daniel Fickling (Bush Hill Park), Andrew George (Ely City), Andrew Pestell (Chelmsford), Mark Roberts (Queenwood) and Mark Stokes (Rayleigh).
