USA captain Paul Levy has emphasised how he has a team full of experience to contest the PGA Cup at Foxhills Club and Resort this week.
Levy and his men followed a game of golf on Monday at Walton Heath with their first look at the Longcross course at Foxhills yesterday.
The team includes former PGA Tour players Omar Uresti (49)and Paul Claxton (49) as well as Mark Brown (51) and Dave McNabb (51).
Levy, who is also a president of the PGA of America, said: “We have four veterans that have played in these matches before and six who haven’t. But there are also a lot of mature guys.
“It’s not like we have a team of 25-year-olds. We have got a lot of experienced players – even those who haven’t played in the match before – who have been top-notch club professionals, tour experienced-type players. So we are excited. We think we’ve got a great team.
“The chemistry is good, they’re having fun. That’s what this is about…it’s about the fellowship. Of course, winning is something everybody wants to do. Everybody wants to bring that Cup back.”
Levy is anticipating another closely-fought contest after the drama of a tied-match at Slaley Hall in 2013 and Great Britain and Ireland’s one-point win at Cordevalle two years ago.
But whatever transpires, he is clear on one aspect – his enjoyment at fulfilling the role of USA captain.
Levy assessed: “It’s a pleasure, a treat and an honour.”
