Bristol Golf Centre’s Giuseppe Licata (above) and European Senior Tour winner George Ryall shared top place in the latest Gloucester and Somerset PGA winter medal at Stockwood Vale Golf Club in Bristol.
They recorded one-under-par rounds of 70 at the tricky venue near Keynsham where a testing wind on a dry day caused unusually high scoring.
Both made five birdies each and four bogeys. Between them they picked up shots at nine different holes, the 18th being the only one they both birdied. Licata’s other gains came at the third, fourth, seventh and 12th.
Ryall picked up shots at the first, 10th, 11th and 14th. They also shared the birdie sweep and Ryall claimed the Over 40’s prize as well.
Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin and Burnham and Berrow touring professional Lee Corfield were two shots back. Goodwin also looked a probable winner until he dropped two shots at the treacherous par four 17th hole, which proved to be the toughest hole for everyone.
Corfield could also feel disappointed as he racked up a quadruple bogey nine on the par five seventh, but he recovered superbly by returning home in three-under.
Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) continued his steady climb up the Order of Merit by sharing fifth with Somerset amateur Matt Kippen (Enmore Park) on 73.
