Licata maintains purple patch of form with fourth successive win

02/12/2021

Giuseppe Licata ended the 2021 leg of the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series by recording his fourth successive victory and increasing his lead in the Order of Merit.

Having finished tied-first with four others in the previous event, Licata had the winner’s circle at Worlebury Golf Club all to himself after negotiating the course on the hill north of Weston Super Mare in level par.

As a result, his round of 70, which included three birdies, left him a shot clear of Enmore Park’s David Dixon, who was left to rue a three-putt on the par-four 18th, and two ahead of his Filton Golf Club assistant Mark Pitcher.

Those birdies all came on the front nine where the wind was less influential. Not so on the way home, especially the final five holes which yielded just two to members of the 20-strong field.

Licata now boasts a 50-plus point lead over Brean Golf Club’s Andrew March in the Order of Merit and is more than 60 points clear of Pitcher who occupies third place.
