A five-under-par 41 points saw Leatherhead’s Michael Lowe win the penultimate event in the PGA South Winter Series with Titleist & FootJoy by three shots.
Playing the Heritage course at London Golf Club, a delighted Lowe said: “It’s the first time I’ve played the Heritage course. I liked it a lot, especially the par fives around and over water, and I thought the greens were pretty good too.” Lowe birdied three of the four par fives in his six birdie round, dropping just one stroke at the second.
He continued: “I’m currently acting GM at Leatherhead, which has left me little if any time to practice, let alone play, but my new coach Steven Orr has simplified things so that I don’t feel the need to practice as much to get results, and the win here confirms that. So in 2019, while I’ll be playing less often, I’m aiming to do as well as I can in the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit tournaments, alongside some of the local Pro-Ams.”
With strong winds and low temperatures conditions at the exposed Kent venue were far from easy, but Lowe mastered the challenges in style and took home the winner’s cheque of £500. Tom Jordan (Langley Park), who also picked up the Leading Assistant’s ball, glove and shoe contract, Adam Clough (PGolfCoaching@Pedham) and Darren Timms (Gravesend Golf Centre) finished as runners up.
The win at the London Golf Club has helped propel Lowe into third place in the PGA South Winter Series with Titleist & FootJoy Order of Merit 2018-19, but James Ablett (Lee-on-the-Solent) is still the current leader.
The leading Trainees of Peter Tarver-Jones, Billy Hemstock and Jordan Loft still have all to play for at Farnham for the last event, the Titleist & FootJoy A&T BetterBall Pro-Am in April, to see who will pick up the Battle Bowl.
