Lucas and Davis tie at the top

Ashley Lucas and Mark Davis both shot two-under-par rounds of 64 for a share of first place at the Crowlands Heath Invitational Pro-Am.

Lucas, above, playing at his home club, took full advantage of local knowledge as he began with a birdie at the opening par-four. He went on to card four more birdies, countered by three bogies.

Davis, fresh from making his European Seniors Tour debut in Switzerland earlier this month, teed off at the third and took a few holes to click into top gear. He dropped a shot at his second before producing a hot streak of three birdies inside five holes from his sixth.

A bogey soon followed but he cancelled that out with a three at his third last hole – the par-four first – to ensure a tie for top spot.

Steve Cipa recovered from a double bogey seven at his first hole – the ninth – to finish third. He slipped to three-over-par before turning things around with back-to-back birdie twos.

Cipa (South Essex Golf Centre) picked up two more shots in finishing with a 65 and he also had the satisfaction of leading the winning team.
