Charlie Luther and Chase Davis (above) both fired five-under-par rounds of 67 to share top spot at the Saffron Walden Pro-Am.
Luther (Hertfordshire G and CC) was in fine form on the greens, recording a total of eight birdies.
Indeed, he could have won the tournament outright were it not for a bogey on the closing hole, a par-three.
Davis (Stapleford Abbotts) was a model of consistency, not dropping a shot throughout his round. He began with a birdie and was four-under after 10 holes.
He found another at the 16th to tie at the top for his second Pro-Am success on the PGA in England (East) schedule in 2014. Davis also won the regional qualifier for the Powerade Assistants’ Championship.
To complete a great day, Davis headed the winning team whose 129 tally was one better than that recorded by the Luther-led quartet.
In the individual strokeplay, Jason Boast (Cambridge Golf Driving Range) maintained his good run of recent form with a third-place finish, shooting a 68.
