James Mynott shot a superb seven-under-par 64 at the Rayleigh Club to record his first ever victory on the PGA in England (East) schedule.
The third-year St Ives assistant has enjoyed a fine 2015 campaign that saw him rise to 13th on the final Order of Merit – from 39th a year earlier.
And he capped a very promising season with a flawless display at the Essex venue, securing a two-shot success in the process.
Mynott, 29, said: “It has been a good year, everything has improved – especially my consistency. To finish off with a win makes it even better.
“I’d played well and had some good finishes, so to now get a win – shooting my lowest score ever – is really good. It will give me the confidence to go on and try and win more next year.”
Mynott teed off at the 10th and was soon on the birdie trail, picking up strokes at both the 11th and 12th. He got it to four-under-par after six holes and kept the pedal down after turning for home.
Mynott made three more birdies to lie seven-under through 16 and then parred his two closing holes, including the ninth, which played the hardest hole on the course.
His brilliant bogey-free effort left in the clear ahead of a cluster of four players tied at five-under. Charlie Luther (Hertsfordshire G&CC), Tom Clements (Eaton), Neil Mitchell (Bury Golf Range) and Fredrick Harrington (Rochford Hundred) all shot respective 65s.
Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) led the winning team on a total of 125 – two clear.
