Making his ‘Mark’

Mark Talbott (Thorpe Hall) shot a three-under-par to edge out a group of six players for a one-shot win in the Brookmans Park Pro-Am.

Talbott compiled six birdies in a round of 68 to secure victory from James Ruebotham (Welwyn Garden City), Stuart Brown (Thorpe Wood), Laurence Allen (Verulam), Ed Morton (EM Golf Studio), Ben Talbot (Brocket Hall) and Phil Abbot (John O’Gaunt).

Talbott laid the foundations for his score with a fine front nine. He flanked a bogey at the fourth with birdies and made further gains at the seventh and ninth.

He’d slipped back to two-under with two to play but conjured a vital birdie at the par-4 17th.Talbott parred the last and that proved good enough to give him a first victory on the 2016 PGA in England (East) schedule.

There was double delight for Talbott as he led the winning pro-am team on a total of 127 – one clear.
