Ashley Mansell produced the form that earned him this year’s West Region PGA Order of Merit title by sharing top place in the latest Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal at Worlebury.
The Clevedon assistant shot two-under-par 68 to match the in-form Brickhampton Court player Ross Langdon over the course high above Weston-super-Mare.
Mansell was three under par after collecting birdies at the first, third and fifth holes, marred by a double bogey at the short sixth. A succession of pars followed another dropped shot at the 10th and a final birdie at the 11th.
Langdon made an even better start by pitching in for an eagle two at the fourth sandwiched between two birdies. He was out in 30 but found life tougher coming home with four bogeys and only one birdie but he hung on to claim his fourth win of the season.
Tall Pines assistant Luke Collins was two shots behind on 71. He carded seven birdies in a rollercoaster round as he continued his impressive season.
He was one ahead of Martin Dewhurst (unattached), Luke Derrick (Henbury), amateur Alex Ireland, Cirencester’s Mark Plummer and the ever present Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Giuseppe Licata. Licata now leads Langdon by more than 45 points in the merit list.
Chipping Sodbury’s general manager and PGA pro Robin Goodey holed his tee shot at the 142yd par three second hole. He also recorded the last ace in the series at Cleeve Hill just over 12 months ago.
