Clevedon Golf Club amateur Craig Manson says it will be an incredible feeling to follow in the footsteps of golf’s stars when he plays in the Lombard Trophy final at Gleneagles.
Manson, left, is partnering the Somerset club’s PGA Professional Ryan Crowley at the £43,600 event which is being played over the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles between September 1-2.
The pair made it to the final by winning their qualifying event at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in June.
They came through on countback and five handicapper Manson is determined to make the most of the occasion.
“It’s going to be a very special event,” said Manson, who is a 38-year-old plumbing lecturer at a college in Bristol.
“To play at the Ryder Cup venue and follow in the footsteps of the star players at Gleneagles will be amazing.
“One of the members here has played the course and told us what to expect, but to actually get out there and play will be incredible.
“Both myself and Ryan are really looking forward to it and I just cannot wait for it now that’s it’s so close.”
Manson also hopes to have some local support at Gleneagles as much of his family hail from the Edinburgh area.
And he has also been in good form on the course since booking his place in the event.
“I play regularly for Clevedon in the Bristiol and District Golf League so I’m hoping to take that form into the final,” he added.
But the pair are also hoping to pick up on some expert advice.
Cowley’s partner is women’s Tour player Sue Elliott. And she has been passing on some tips.
“Neither of us has played at Gleneagles before, but Sue has, so she’s been telling what to expect,” said Cowley, who took over as head professional at Clevedon in March.
“Hopefully that’ll help us do well over the two days.
“But Craig’s been putting in a lot of time and effort so we’ll be well prepared.”
