Cameron Marr has his sights set high after topping the leaderboard at the Galvin Green PGA Assistants’ Championship Scottish qualifier.
Marr and Jordan Brown shared the honours at Auchterarder Golf Club,
But Marr, of Musselburgh Golf Club near Edinburgh, topped the leaderboard on countback with both players finishing with a level-par round of 69 at the Perthshire venue.
They will join 14 other qualifiers for the £32,500 grand final to be held at Coventry Golf Club on August 5-7.
Marr produced an impressive back nine after a shaky start which saw him produce a double bogey at the sixth hole.
But he turned his fortunes around with a birdie at the ninth - and he followed that up with four more.
Brown, of Dumfries & County Golf Club, started his day with a bogey but he then birdied the second hole to provide the foundations of a consistent round.
This will be Marr’s third appearance in the grand final and he hopes his progression will continue.
“I didn’t make the cut the first year I was there,” said Marr who is in his second year of PGA training.
“But I did last year and so I’m hoping I can improve again.
“I’m getting more and more confident and I’d like to think I can go for one of the top spots this time.”
Marr admitted he needed to overcome a blip at Auchterarder when he made his double bogey.
“I didn’t let that faze me,” he said. “I knew the birdies would come and they did. I just had to be patient.
“Other players were struggling too with the conditions.
“It felt like it was a gale force wind out there, but I felt I would be able to qualify and played better on the back nine.
“Now I’m really looking forward to getting back to Coventry.
“I enjoy it there and I think it’s a course that suits my game.”
Maar works along side Musselburgh head professional Norman Huguet and says he is in good hands.
“Myself and Norman are good friends, he’s a very experienced player so this is a good place to be,” added Marr.
