A spectacular round of six-under-par 66 saw Martin Woodbridge (Bearwood Lakes) take first place in the Parkstone Pro-Am after venturing from the South region to claim the £850 top prize.
He was five-under-par after eight holes before dropping his first shot the par five ninth. The damage was repaired by three further birdies at the 11th, 12th and 15th before he was tripped up at the tricky par three finishing hole where he dropped his second shot.
But it did no damage for he finished two clear of Andy Windsor (Knighton Heath), Barry Austin (Downes Crediton), who is competing strongly each time he tees up this season, and the rapidly improving Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) who is running into form at a vital stage of the season.
Windsor eagled the first two par fives before dropping a shot on the tenth. Austin made six birdies, Watson five.
Six players shared sixth on 69, among them Mark Wiggett (Dudsbury) who was the only player not to drop a shot. A succession of pars was followed by three birdies in the final five holes.
The others were Henry Pallas (Upavon), Kevin Harper (East Devon), Adam Frayne (Yelverton), Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) and Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge).
Dan Carter (Upavon) led the winning team of Tim Sears, Tom Boucher and Dave Mellor on 22-under-par 94. Windsor, playing with Phillip Goodwin, Scott Brown and Paul Lambert, came two shots behind.
Harper’s trio of Simon Carter, Lance Downes and Mark Dunsford were third on 89, beating Dudsbury’s Lee Thompson on countback.
