Martindale and Fletcher lead qualifiers

Lee Martindale served up a superb back nine to share top spot with Scott Fletcher at qualifying for the Weston Homes East Herts Classic.

Martindale (Redbourn) was two-over-par at the turn at Essex Golf and Country Club, but he changed everything around on the inward nine, notching four birdies alongside five pars.

That left him with a two-under-par 71, the same score that Fletcher (Brentwood Park Golf Range) signed for. Fletcher also mustered a strong finish, picking up shots at three of the final five holes.

The pair were three clear of a quartet of qualifiers at one-over-par. The seventh and final qualifying spot went to Mark Bell (Wyke Green) who delivered a telling birdie at the par-five 18^th hole.

The Weston Homes East Herts Classic will take place on June 30-July 1 at East Herts.
