James McGhee gate-crashed the locals' "party" to share in a four-way tie finish at the Duff House Royal Golf Club pro-am.

The three others - Greig Hutcheon and Greg McBain from the Paul Lawrie stable and Scott Henderson (Kings Links, Aberdeen) - all from the North-east, know the Banff par-68 lay-out better than most  and were sharing the clubhouse lead with level-par rounds over what can be a tricky course with a bit of a wind blowing.

Then McGhee, from the Bishopbriggs Golf Range, came in late in the day with a fourth 68 to reduce the pay-out to £883 each

Henderson and Hutch had matching halves of 34-34; McBain 32-36 which included an eagle two at the par-four eighth, while McGhee was out in 33 and home in 35.

Joint fifth finisher Paul O'Hara (Clydeway Golf) was one-under-par with three holes to play but bogeyed the 16th and 17th to drop back to a 69 alongside Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst).

Matheson also led the CMB Building Contractors team of Graham Buxton (handicap 18), Graeme Masson (8) and James Cumming (11) to victory in the team event with a net, best ball score of 13-under-par 55.
