Brendan McGovern cleaned up at the inaugural PGA Benevolent Fund and Past Captain's Pro-Am at Delgany Golf Club.
The Headfort PGA Professional carded an individual score of three-under-par 66 to win the Past Captain's Prize while also partnering amateur, Jack Duffy (Ardee), to the pro-am title with a team score of 47 points.
The event, facilitated by Delgany GC professional, Gavin Kavanagh, a former chairman of The PGA in Ireland, raised €3360 for the PGA Benevolent Fund and plans are already in place for the tournament to return to the Co Wicklow venue next year.
The money raised will go towards the Fund’s charity work which helps PGA Members who have fallen on difficult times or hardship.
The Benevolent Fund remains important to the Association having been set up in 1901 at the inaugural founding of The Professional Golfers’ Association and over the years it has helped hundreds of PGA pros.
It was a very successful week for McGovern who also guided his Headfort team to victory at the 3Ts Golf Tournament All-Ireland final on the Ryder Cup Course at the K Club, earning a trip to Spain to play at La Cala, Mijas.
Headfort won on 89 points with Nenagh a close second on 88 points and Dundrum Golf Resort third on 81 points.
