Rob McGuirk had a day to remember at the Virgin Atlantic PGA in England (South) Annual Dinner and Pro-Am after being voted PGA Professional of the Year for the region.
The Prince’s player not only won the top honour at the black tie dinner, but earlier in the day he led his team of three amateurs to a memorable victory over The Berkshire’s Blue course.
McGuirk and his Kentish raiders took full advantage of perfect playing conditions to win the pro-am with 87 points. They finished two points ahead of St. George’s Hill star Andy Raitt’s Brand Fusion team and McGuirk’s right-hand man at Prince’s Anthony Tarchettie, who both notched up 85 points.
McGuirk was clearly overwhelmed to find he was the popular recipient of the PGA Professional of the Year award. He said: “After finding I was no longer making the grade on the European Tour, I decided to find a new direction and The PGA was the perfect fit for me.
“It speaks volumes for being a member of this organisation that all sorts of new opportunities opened up for me, especially in my GM role at Prince’s.
“We have further improvements in the pipeline and in a few years’ time it will be amazing to look back and think that I was a big part of all that. It’s especially rewarding to be voted to receive this award, and it makes me feel honoured and very proud to be a PGA Professional in what I regard as a great community of fellow golf professionals.”
Other highlights from the awards include Canterbury’s Richard Wallis picking up a record fifth Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit Title for 2017 and he also won the Player of the Year accolade. Newly married Adam Wootton collected the Charity Fund Raiser of the Year Award for his golf day which raised over £10,000 for Thomley.
An after dinner auction helped raise a substantial sum to provide playing opportunities for young PGA Professionals in The PGA in England (South).
