Rory McIlroy’s coach Michael Bannon has been shortlisted in the High-performance Coach of the Year category in the 2014 UK Coaching Awards: Supported by Gillette.
The PGA Professional has been a key member of the Northern Ireland superstar’s backroom staff during a stellar year which has seen the 25 year old win the Open, USPGA Championship and Race to Dubai.
Mcllroy was also instrumental in helping Europe retain the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
Bannon faces competition for the prestigious award from John Conlan, Jo Coombs, David Sommerville and Gary Street
Conlan was head coach of the Northern Ireland boxing team that delivered an amazing nine medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games while Coombs coached the Wales Rhythmic Gymnastics squad to an impressive eight medals in Glasgow.
Sommerville headed up the Scotland Judo Squad that won six Gold, two Silver and five Bronze at the Commonwealths and Street helped mastermind the England Women’s Rugby Union team to World Cup success in 2014.
The awards take place at the City Chambers in Glasgow on 19 November.
