Memorable for Hide

02/04/2013

Frinton assistant Tom Hide has a limited playing schedule because he is a full-time coach to the Coastal Golf Academy, serves on the committee of the Essex Golf Partnership and is lead coach to the Essex Golf Academy.

Yet he produced a memorable round of level par 72 to win the Essex PGA pro-am at Prince’s Golf Club in Kent in chilly conditions.

Hide, runner-up in the Essex Open in 2006, beat Steve Richardson of Garon Park by one shot with Jason Levermore third at two over par. Levermore, formerly of Clacton, is the new head PGA Professional at Channels Golf Club near Chelmsford.

Fourth place went to Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range) at three over par. Fifth place was shared by Mark Baker (Colchester), Phil Wesley (Langdon Hills) and Roger Gray (Thorndon Park) with rounds of 76.

Wesley won the team prize with amateurs Darren Spencer, Darren Curdginton and Nigel Brown with six under par 78 Stableford points. Runners-up one point behind were Steve Hambling (Braintree), Don Cutmore, Neil Howard and Gerry Callow.

Third team prize was settled on count back with Baker, Steve Wynne, Alan Sharrocks and Mike Clouting with 76 points. Also on 76 were Andy Pestell (Chelmsford), Jim Harris, Mike Bear and John Sliney together with Richardson, Jim Saunders, Gary Marshall and Russ Bines.
