Michael Ramsden wants to build on the best year of his career as he stages his bid to return to the Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship Final.

Ramsden, of Sheffield’s Renishaw Park Golf Club, made it to the PGA Play-offs at Walton Heath after winning the North Order of Merit title.

He also reached the PGA Championship Final and says he is looking to produce the right combination to try and challenge for PGA Cup points.

Ramsden will tee off at the North East qualifying event on May 30 and will be aiming to qualify for the £78,000 grand final which takes place on July 24-27 at Little Aston Golf Club near Birmingham.

“I had a good year throughout in 2017, the best I’ve ever had, and this event is the key one for me,” he said.

“I’ve had five or six years doing it and at first I did really well, but I’ve had a blip in the final the last couple of years.

“And it was a bit frustrating as I had a sixth and an eighth two years running, but they didn’t fall in line for PGA Cup points. If I’d had them in the right two years I’d have been going to the PGA Cup!

“I’d like to time it right because it is definitely a dream of mine, but you have to be on your game, the standard’s so good nowadays, it’s so high it’s unbelievable.

“Playing in the Play-offs last year was a bit of an eye opener. But just to be part of it was great.”

Ramsden admits the winter conditions were not kind to him but he is stepping up his game now.

“The weather was so bad last winter, I literally didn’t touch a club for about four months,” he said.

“So I’m blowing the rust away now, I just hope it’s blown away in time for Fulford. I’m looking to play some decent greens.”
