High Peak youngster Archie Qualtrough has made a rapid journey to the National Golf Centre Academy at Woodhall Spa just two months after his first taster session.
The seven-year-old Hayfield Primary pupil has started a coaching programme at the home of England Golf following an after-school introduction course organised by local PGA Professional Dave Cullen.
After his initial lessons, Qualtrough remained under Cullen’s coaching guidance at New Mills Golf Club and was soon sweeping 170-yard drives from the tee and recording impressive tournament results.
Following a recommendation to visit Woodhall Spa, the academy's PGA lead tutor Neil Harvey was impressed with what he saw and started a personal coaching plan to support Cullen’s weekly tuition.
Cullen said: "Archie has a natural talent for the game and has developed at an amazing pace since hitting his first shots with the Tri-Golf equipment only eight weeks ago.
"Tri-Golf to experienced golfer in eight weeks is an amazing journey. A natural talent, the game seems so easy to him."
Qualtrough’s father Stuart added: "We have been incredibly impressed with the guidance and support Archie has received from the sport of golf and The PGA.
"Archie had never set foot on a golf course before late July this year, but it has proved almost impossible to keep him off ever since. He would be there practising before and after school every day given the chance.
"Without Dave Cullen, who has been remarkable in helping Archie, we would never have known of his ability level and the opportunities that were available to him."
Qualtrough, who now attends Woodhall Spa once a month to develop his skills, is one of 80 local children who have found the game of golf to be a life-changing opportunity through Dave's tour of the schools in the area.
