2024 has been a great year for tournaments, with excellent performances from Midlands Members at both regional and national levels. All events in the 2024 season were well supported by Members, and we were fortunate enough to have some decent weather for the events, with only a few being affected by rain early in the season.
Order of Merit
The Midlands Order of Merit for 2024 began at Wellingborough Golf Club with the 18th Glazerite Trophy. Matt Cort won the trophy with a score of 6-under par for the two rounds, closely followed by James Freeman and Adam Keogh, who both finished at 5-under par. The second Order of Merit event was the Midland Open, held at Copt Heath Golf Club, which also served as the Midlands Open Series event, open to all PGA Members across the country.
Matt Cort continued his fine run of form to win both the Midland Open and the Open Series with an impressive 11-under par over two rounds, notably he was leading after round one, shooting an unbelievable 8-under par.
The Midland Professional Championship made up the third Order of Merit event of the season, with round one held at Coxmoor Golf Club and round two at Wollaton Park Golf Club. Patrick Ruff and James Whatley both finished round two at 7-under par. It took two play-off holes to separate the pair, with Patrick making a birdie on the second play-off hole to secure the win.
Senior and Trainee Order of Merit
The Midlands Senior and Trainee Order of Merit took place this year across six events held at Kenilworth, Stoke Rochford, Whittlebury Park, Stourbridge, Longcliffe, and Trentham Park. The Seniors and Trainees have their own individual Order of Merits that run throughout the season, with first, second, and third place finishes being awarded at the end of the season.
Stuart Reynolds won the Seniors Order of Merit, with victories at Kenilworth, Whittlebury Park, and Trentham Park. Tony Westwood and Kevin Beatie finished second and third in the Order of Merit, respectively.
George Raitt won the Trainee Order of Merit ahead of Aarian Matharu in second place, with Jevann Parmar and Tyler Allsopp sharing third place. Raitt only competed in five out of the six events, but with wins at Stoke Rochford and Stourbridge, along with second-place finishes at Kenilworth, Whittlebury Park, and Longcliffe, he secured the victory.
