Clevedon assistant Ashley Mansell defied wet and windy weather to record his first Gloucester and Somerset win of the year at Minehead and West Somerset.
With the stableford scoring system again being deployed due to the weather he notched 36 points to beat European Tour man David Dixon by one point.
Mansell, making his last appearance for a couple of weeks before taking a short holiday break in the Middle East, started, as many did, with a birdie at the downwind driveable opening hole.
He also took advantage of the two front-nine par fives with a birdie at the fifth before yet another chip-in for an eagle at the seventh. But bogeys at the fourth and sixth and a double bogey at the ninth took him to the turn in a level-par 18.
Coming home into the breeze further birdies at the 11th and 14th were marred by dropped shots at the final two holes. But he managed to take the birdie sweep and is now third in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.
Dixon (Enmore Park) carded birdies at the first and 11thbut faltered at the fourth, eighth 12th and 14th.
Cirencester’s Ed Goodwin returned to form with three birdies and five bogeys to score 34. George Ryall (Players Club) and Somerset county amateur Jack Palmer from Burnham and Berrow shared fourth on 33.
