Mitch on song

Mitchell Kierstenson (East Herts) made a birdie on the final hole to win the Ely City Pro=Am by a stroke.

The experienced Kierstenson shot three-under-par to pip a cluster of five golfers.

He was three-under-par at the turn and moved one better with a birdie at the 11th.

But a rollercoaster spell from the next hole undermined his victory challenge.

A dropped shot on 17 saw him drop back to two-under. However he dug deep on the closing hole – a tough left to right dog-leg – and grabbed a closing birdie three to seal a score of 69.

After that he sat back and saw a host of players come close to matching him but all came up one short.

In the end Dan Poulter (Heacham Manor), David Salisbury (David Salisbury Golf), James Taverner (Hendon), Rob Coles (Maylands Golf & Country Club) and Darren Charlton (Dunstable Downs) tied for second place.
