Two experienced campaigners topped the leaderboard at the Philip Walton Malahide Pro-Am supporting St Francis Hospice.

Damian Mooney (Damian Mooney Golf) and Colm Moriarty (Glasson GC) posted rounds of two under par 69 to finish one shot ahead of Steven Quinlan (SQ Golf) and Daniel Beattie.

Moriarty played his opening nine holes in level par with a birdie at the sixth cancelled out by a bogey at the par-four eighth. He played steadily on the back nine and collected birdies at the par fives (15&17) to come home in two under 34.

Mooney was left to rue a bad finish that saw him bogey the final three holes of a round that included an eagle two at the par-four sixth.

The Belfast golfer collected two birdies, that eagle and a bogey over his opening nine as he reached the turn in three under 32.

Further birdies at the 11th and 15th saw him reach five under for his round but that difficult finish saw him return in one under 36.

Beattie grabbed victory in the team competition, guiding his amateur partners to success with 94 points.
