Damien Mooney (Nevada Bobs Belfast) stamped his authority all over the Castle Hume Pro-Am carding a five-under-par 65 to win by two shots.

The Belfast golfer (above) has a track record of producing low scores at the Enniskillen course. In 2006 he carded rounds of 65/66 to win the Ulster PGA Championship by 10 shots.

One of the early starters on Friday, Damien birdied the third, eighth and then eagled the par four ninth, pitching in from 63 yards, to reach the turn in four-under 31.

He made a few mistakes over the back nine, with birdies at the 12th, 14th and 18th offset by dropped shots at 13 and 16 as he came home in one-under 34.

“It's a course that's certainly matured over the years and all the wee trees that were planted have grown now so you have to be careful off the tee,” said Mooney.

“The par threes are also a challenge so overall it's a good test.”

Delgany's Mark Staunton finished in second at Castle Hume following a three-under-par 67. Staunton played his opening 13 holes in five-under-par but three dropped shots in the space of four holes cost him his chance of victory.

David Ryan (Cahir Park GC), Simon Thornton, Tim Rice (Limerick GC) and Colm Moriarty (Drive Golf Performance) shared third place on one-under-par.

Local man Mark Beckett, now working at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, guided his amateur partners, Pat Duffy, Peter Beckett and Damien Burns to success in the team event with 94 points. Murray (Massereene GC) 70
