Damian Mooney set a sizzling six-under-par 66 target in the opening round of the 36-hole PGA pro-am tournament at The Heritage, sponsored by Aidan O’Connell & Associates.
The leader, who teed off his round at the 10th, spread seven birdies over his highly impressive card with four in a row from the 11th hole. He added another at 16 to turn in five-ubnder-par.
His only blip of the day was a bogey five at the ninth hole - his last, after he had back to back birdies at the short seventh and long eighth.
However, despite Mooney’s move he has only one stroke to spare over former Irish champion David Mortimer going into the final round today (Monday).
David Ryan led in the winning team of McCormick family members on 95 points. The amateurs were dad Phil McCormick sons Luke and Paul. Phil and Luke are Knockanally members while Paul plays out of The Heritage.
