West Yorkshire golf club Moor Allerton has been announced as host to the PGA Europro Tour’s very first 72-hole event.
The Clipper Logistics Players Championship, which has a total prize fund of £60,000, will visit the Leeds course on August 26-29. The winner will take home a cheque for £12,000.
The event has been secured for three years, guaranteeing a minimum 54-hole HotelPlanner.com PGA Europro Tour event at Moor Allerton Golf Club until 2017, with the option to continue as a 72-hole tournament.
Barry Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport and the Europro Tour, commented: “This is brilliant news for the Tour. It brings the EuroPro even closer to the Challenge and European Tours and means the best young golfers in the country will have the chance to experience the rigorous demands of performing well over 72 holes in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
“The Europro Tour has made great strides over the last few years. This year we have seen prize funds increased by 25% across the season and to have the Clipper Logistics Players Championship as our first 72-hole event will undoubtedly be one of our highlights of the summer.”
James Whitaker, head professional at Moor Allerton Golf Club, said: “This is a great opportunity for the Europro’s players and for Moor Allerton. This will be the third consecutive year in which we have hosted the PGA Europro Tour and this is a really big step in growing the event.”
