Fern Grimshaw gave her mother the ideal birthday present as she sealed her opening WPGA One Day Series victory at Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club.
Grimshaw’s mum Lynn was caddy for the day - and she saw her daughter record a two shot win to close the gap on Suzanne Dickens in the Order of Merit table after five events.
The Wessex Golf Centre player carded a three under par round of 70 to beat Katrina Holford, of Staffordshire’s Chase Golf Club, and Tracy Loveys, from Bigbury Golf Club in Devon, into joint second place.
But while Weymouth's Grimshaw enjoyed a family celebration, she reserved her highest praise for new coach and fellow PGA Professional Dan Frost.
She changed coaches last October and is now beginning to feel the benefits.
Grimshaw admitted: “My game had gone to tatters last year. My swing was in pieces so Dan took it apart and put it back together again. He’s made a massive difference but this was the first time I’ve really felt the benefits.
“I’d been waiting for it to happen, but the weather hasn’t been ideal for me. This time was good though and it was special when it all came together. I felt really relaxed.
“So I was able to give Dan some good news about that.”
Grimshaw admitted it also meant a lot to have her mum with her out on the course.
She smiled: “It was her birthday so she was on the bag for me and it was my best golf of the year so far.
“I didn’t realise I was doing so well in the Order of Merit now though with Suzanne not playing so I will probably do my best to play in both the remaining rounds.
“I wasn’t going to do the last event at Forest Pines as it’s a seven hour trip, but I think I will now.”
