0708Warwickshire Darren Murphy

Stonebridge PGA pro Darren Murphy will lead Warwickshire’s bid as they target a place in the inaugural final of the SkyCaddie PGA England & Wales Inter-County Championship.

Murphy teams up with Handsworth’s Jak Hamblett and Stratford’s Fred Jewsbury in the qualifier at Stapleford Golf Club on August 14.

The trio represent the county courtesy of being the leading trio in the order of merit.

They will be up against several other counties including Staffordshire which will be represented by former Ryder Cup and PGA Cup player David Gilford and PGA Cup player Danny Taylor.

Gilford played in the infamous 1991 ‘War on the Shore’ Ryder Cup match and again four years later at Oak Hill.

A total of eight teams representing counties across the Midlands will do battle over 36-holes on Wednesday August 14, with the winning county securing their place in the £10,000 two-day final at The Belfry in October.
