Neil Fenwick claims second Carnegie Invitational success

Dunbar's Neil Fenwick battled some of the toughest conditions he's experienced to win the Carnegie Invitational at Skibo Castle for a second time.

Fenwick shot rounds of 69 and 71 for a two-under-par 140 total, winning by two shots from Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) as he carded scores of 70-72.

Fenwick picked up three early birdies in his opening round and was out in 32. He then dropped three shots in two holes at the 11th and 12th before rallying to finish birdie-birdie.

A shot ahead overnight, he opened with a bogey on the second day then picked up shots at the sixth, seventh and 11th before carding two late bogeys.

Fenwick picked up a cheque for £4750 while Hutcheon earned £3500 as he finished four shots ahead of third-placed Paul O'Hara (North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd).

In the team event, Fenwick led The Maestro's to victory, joining forces with 18-handicapper Jorgen Dannesboe, David Watson off eight and 14-handicapper David Henderson to claim that triumph.

"It was a fantastic week at Skibo Castle," said Fenwick. "I played very solid in really tough conditions, probably some of windiest weather ever played in!

"It was fantastic to win both individual and team events. I won up there in 2013 and it's a pleasure to be a double winner at such a great place.

"Hopefully I can keep the form heading into Highland Golf Links Pro-Am and the M&H Logistics Scottish PGA Championship."

Former European Tour player Steven O’Hara produced a brilliant bogey-free performance to win the Musselburgh 36-Hole Order of Merit event.

O’Hara, who is attached to North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, carded an eagle and four birdies in an opening 65 before adding a 66 that contained five birdies.

On 11-under, he finished a shot ahead of his younger brother Paul (66-66), as well as another ex-European Tour player Jamie McLeary (67-65).

West Linton’s Gareth Wright stepped up his bid to finish as this season's No 1 on the circuit by claiming the spoils in the Kerr Investments Order of Merit Pro Am.

Wright carded rounds of 67 and 64 at Dumfries & Galloway for a nine-under-par total, claiming the £2240 top prize by a shot from Crow Wood’s Ian Graham.

Two shots off the lead after his opening effort, two-time PGA Cup player Wright signed for an eagle and five birdies in his second round, with gains at both the 16th and 17th proving to be decisive.

The win backed up Wright’s title triumph in the Northern Open at Nairn Dunbar earlier in the year.

Storm Ali reduced the Prestwick St Nicholas 36-Hole Order of Merit Challenge to one round.

That left Craig Ronald (Carluke), Robert Arnott (Bishopbriggs Golf Range) and Michael Patterson (Williamwood) sharing the top prize - the trio each picked up £575 - with two-under-par 67s

Ronald picked up two shots in the last four holes, as did both Patterson and Arnott, though the latter also finished with a bogey.

Chris Curran (Bathgate) Chris Currie (Caldwell) and Steven O'Hara all carded 68s.

In the Ben Shotgun Pro-Am at Archerfield Links, Steven O'Hara shot a seven-under-par 65 on the Fidra Course for a two-shot win over three players - Hutcheon, Fenwick and Wright.

In the Seniors Fourball at Duddingston, Craig Imlah (Craigielaw) and Steven Dunsmore (Falkirk Tryst) joined forces to card a 68, winning by a shot from David Thomson (Carnegie) and Gordon Law (Uphall).

Enjoying a good run of form, Steven O'Hara was also to the fore in the Young Pros Order of Merit Sprint Series on the King Robert The Bruce Course at Turnberry.

He shared top spot with Thomas Higson (The Gleneagles Hotel) as they both carded one-under-par 71s.

The pair were the only players in the field to break par, with Calum Nairn (Prestwick St Nicholas) and Greg Cessford (Cluny Clays Golf Course) sharing third spot on 74
