Having been elected captain of the PGA in Essex less than two weeks ago, David Hawkins (above) from Wanstead Golf Club celebrated in style at a windswept Woodbridge Golf Club.

In very difficult conditions with no-one threatening par the new captain showed the way with a two-over-par 72 which was good enough to win by one shot from James Webber of Three Rivers Golf and Country Club. Roger Gray from Thorndon Park Golf Club showed a welcome return to form to take third place on 74.

First prize in the Pro-Am was taken on countback by the team of Malcom Prior, Ken Richardson and Paul Homewood who were led home by Andy Shakespear from the Warren Golf Club.

On a similar score was the Woodbridge team with local assistant professional Patrick Spraggs.
