The use of technology in golf coaching is growing rapidly. For example, currently there are over 20 launch monitors on the market costing from less than £100 to over £15k. For golf coaches to benefit from these technologies they need to make informed decisions about which system is best suited for their needs. This course is designed to help in this process.

Background:

The use of technology in golf coaching has been on the increase in recent years with the introduction of launch monitors to measure ball and club information and biomechanics technology to measure a golfer’s body movements. There are already several different technologies on the market, all seemingly measuring similar outcomes, and often the differences between them is poorly understood. Understanding how these different technologies operate or knowing which data to trust could help you to accurately interpret the data gathered and, as a coach, select the most appropriate technology for your needs.

Why Attend?

The Sports Technology Institute at Loughborough University has many years of experience measuring a variety of aspects to do with sports equipment and sporting performance using the latest technologies and developing custom technologies for a particular purpose. Given our strong research background, we have carried out several studies comparing current golf technology such as launch monitors and motion analysis systems, in particular when measuring the full golf swing.

This seminar aims to provide those coaches with an interest in current golf coaching technology an insight into the workings of recent technology and a chance to compare similar technologies. This seminar will benefit those coaches looking to include technology into their coaching sessions or to appraise current golf coaching technology. This course also aims to provide thoughts and discussion on the future directions for golf coaching technology.

What will this seminar include?

This seminar will include both presentations and practical sessions focused on the latest technologies used for club, ball and golfer tracking during a full swing. Using current research, we aim to provide an independent view of the capabilities of each technology in order for coaches to appraise the available options. The coaches will gain hands on experience of using some of the latest technologies within our highly equipped sports technology laboratory, by comparing lower end swing analysers like swingbyte with the more expensive TrackMan system as well as comparing 2D high speed video analysis to sophisticated 3D motion capture.
