New start for Bev

Bev New, (above left) who has seen it all and done it all both as an amateur and a professional, is an eye-catching name among the early entries for the fifth and final event of the 2014 Paul Lawrie Golf Centre Ladies Tartan Tour.

The £8,000 Tour Championship takes place over two days from (September 9-10 at the West and East Courses at Marriott Dalmahoy, Edinburgh.

One of the most successful English female golfers over the past 30 years, New turned professional for a second time in the summer of 2012  so that she could become a coach at Lansdown Golf Club, Bath, her original base, where she is an honorary life member.

In her early career, she  was English women's amateur champion in 1980 and played for Great Britain & Ireland in the 1984 Curtis Cup match at Muirfield.
New spent the next 13 years as a tour pro before being reinstated as an amateur and captaining the England home internationals team for two years.

She won the British senior women's championship at West Kilbride in 2010 and  played for England seniors and captained that team for two years.

"I hardly play any competitive golf these days as my coaching keeps me very busy.

"However, Dalmahoy interested me as I played there in my European Tour days and a trip to Scotland with a  friend seemed like a nice idea, and to support a professional event sounded like a great idea," she said.

"So, no big expectations but looking forward to an enjoyable few days, with a stop off at Silloth on the way up, another lovely memory I have playing there."

The Tour Order of Merit for 2014 ends with the Tour Championship. The winner will have her travel and accommodation expenses paid for a trip to the 2015 Ladies European Tour in Morocco, either for Stage 1 or the Final Stage.

Top four placings are: 1 Laura Murray 3,225pt; 2 Michele Thomson 2,295; 3 Jane Turner 2,045; 4 Katy McNicoll. With 1,000 points going to the winner of the Tour Championship, Thomson needs to win the title to pip Murray.
