New structure for PGA in England (Midlands) awards

New structure for PGA in England (Midlands) awards

25/09/2024

The Midlands PGA team is excited to announce the launch of a new and improved structure for the annual PGA Midlands Professional, Manager, Player, and Coach of the Year and Toby Sunderland awards. These awards honour the outstanding contributions of Midlands based PGA Members who have had a significant impact within their role(s) and across the Region. With a refreshed process and scoring criteria, the revamped awards are designed to be more transparent, user-friendly, and inclusive.

One of the most significant changes is how a PGA Member can be nominated for an award. Previously, only PGA members could submit nominations; however, now anyone can. This change will expand the awards' impact and enhance their credibility by increasing their reach and recognition.

Based on this, The Association is actively promoting the awards within the wider golfing community in the Midlands, and Members are encouraged to share the nomination process within their community. This expanded reach increases the credibility of the awards and helps The Association showcase the outstanding contributions of PGA Members on a larger scale, highlighting the fantastic work and impact PGA Members have across the Region.

KEY OBJECTIVES

Enhanced Credibility

The Association is taking proactive steps to increase the recognition of these awards within the wider Midlands golfing community, providing winners with industry and Region wide recognition.

Standardised Scoring

A standardised scoring system has been introduced to ensure fairness across all award categories.

Maximised Participation

The new structure encourages more involvement from PGA Members and allows anyone from within the Midlands Region to submit one or more nominations.

User-Friendly Nomination Process

The nomination and scoring process has been redesigned to be simple and transparent, ensuring clarity and ease of use at every step. This streamlined process makes it easier for both nominators and candidates to participate, reducing complexity and enhancing accessibility.

The new nomination and scoring system for the Midlands Awards will undergo a pilot phase in the Midlands Region. This trial period will allow the Midlands team to fine-tune the process before expanding the system more broadly across the UK in 2025, ensuring its effectiveness and ease of use. To boost the awards' profile, a promotional push will accompany the pilot, with targeted campaigns across Midlands based golf clubs and facilities, bringing greater visibility to the awards and creating an opportunity for anyone in the Midlands Region to nominate a PGA Member.

Once nominations have been received and the closing date passed, to maintain the integrity and fairness of the awards, a subcommittee - composed of the Midlands Chairman and four committee members - will use the new scoring system to evaluate and select winners. This process ensures that every nominee is scored fairly and equally.

The Player of the Year Award will take a unique approach, as it won't require nominations. Instead, the subcommittee will select the winner based on quantitative performance data, ensuring the award accurately reflects measurable accomplishments on the golf course. Based on data, this method ensures that the award is given to a player who has performed to the highest level throughout the season.
