Nick Sheard, who recently returned as PGA Professional for a second spell at South Leeds Golf Club, has died aged 42 following a short illness.

His original career choice was accountancy but after spending six months studying for a university degree he decided to change course and signed up as an assistant at Headingley Golf Club.

Two years later, he moved to Garforth Golf Club where he completed his PGA training with professional Kenny Findlater. The pair became great friends and ultimately set up Complete Golf Solutions, providing merchandise to clubs and professional services to South Leeds Golf Club.

Sheard opted out of golf for 18 months to work for VW motors before resuming his career at South Leeds last April.

His plan was to play more regularly and commissioned his dad Terry to help out in the shop.

Sadly, he struggled to complete a full round as his health deteriorated, having been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 23.

"It was great to see him progress as a young lad into a conscientious professional," said Findlater. "Regardless of his illness he was always upbeat and cheerful and never felt sorry for himself."

Sheard is survived by Janine, his partner for 16 years, and children Lucy, Scott and Jamie. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 24, at 2pm at St Mary's Church in South Milford, where he was born. The Postcode: LS25 5AP.
