Students at Moulton College are preparing to tee off for a golf marathon in support of the Sport Relief campaign.
Students – and staff – are being encouraged to take part in Swing for Sport Relief at the college, an event which is being supported by the Northamptonshire County Golf Partnership.
Those taking part will pay 50 pence for ten shots in a golf simulator.
The event is being organised by college sport maker Alex Le Guével, who is planning to measure just how many yards are totted up throughout the day.
He said: “Our target is to complete the equivalent of as many marathons as possible in one day.
“I will be recording each shot’s distance and we will be organising a competition between the tutorial groups taking part while there will also be a prize for the individual who produces the highest combined yardage from their 10 shots.”
The event, on March 21st, is part of a wider project to encourage students and staff to give golf a go and enjoy its health and social benefits under the Get into Golf banner.
David Davis, PGA Professional and county development officer for the Northamptonshire CGP, explained: “This is a great idea – as well as giving people a taste of swinging a real golf club, this event will raise valuable funds for a very worthwhile cause.
“Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities and a lot of clubs are offering flexible membership options for those who are continuing their studies in further education and may find their opportunities to play golf limited by their workload.”
