Postman Tim Parker, right, helped produce a first class delivery as he watched Bulwell Forest pro Andrew Willey put his stamp on the Golfplan Insurance PGA Pro-Captain Challenge qualifier at Northants County.
The pair posted what turned out be the winning score early on in the Midlands B qualifying event at Northamptonshire County Golf Club.
But they had an anxious wait as two other teams matched their eight under par score of 62.
The won on countback in the end from Richard Beadles and Richard Stevens, of Royal Worlington & Newmarket Golf Club and Adam Chamberlain and David Wright, from Peterborough Milton Golf Club following a three-way tie at the top.
It needed an eagle from Willey, who was joint fifth at this year’s PGA Professional Championship at The Oxfordshire, at the 18th hole to seal victory in what was to prove a key moment.
Parker and Willey will now play in the £25,000 final which takes place at Spanish destination Lumine Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community.
The resort, which features two Greg Norman designs, will stage the event over 36 holes from Wednesday, November 30 - Thursday, December 1.
Four handicapper Parker, aged 53 from Arnold, near Nottingham, admitted that the victory had yet to sink in.
“I’m a bit shell-shocked really, it was enjoyable watching Andy play a great game and I contributed where I could,” he said.
“It was a first for me to play at Northants County and I’ve never played in Spain either so that’ll be another first.
“We had a long wait before finding out we’d won. But we knew that eight or nine under par would stand a chance.”
Willey will be making his debut in the final and is hoping to round the year off in style.
“It’s not been a bad year, I’ve had some good results but it’d be nice to go to Spain and do well there too,” he said.
“I said before the 18th hole that we needed to get an eagle if we were to be in contention. I hit a six iron to the green and it landed within a couple of feet of the hole so we were able to do that and that won it for us.”
