Richard O'Hanlon continued his incredible run of success by winning the re-arranged Woodbury Park pro-am by four shots after an incredible nine-under-par return of 64 at the PGA’s West headquarters.
The St Kew club professional took advantage of benign conditions and receptive greens to make ten birdies with only one dropped shot at the par five ninth where he three-putted.
Although the relentless Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) made a late burst with a four-under-par back nine of 32, he finished well short.
O’Hanlon, winner of 50,000 euros as the Farmfoods Par 3 championship two weeks ago and joint runner-up in the Golfbreaks Fourball Championship with Michael Watson (Weymouth) last week added another £900 to his bank balance as he led the winning team as well.
His round started with four birdies in the first six holes and after his sole bogey he came home in six-under-par 30.
Barry Austin (Downes Crediton) looked to be the danger after a front nine of three-under 34. But his round was derailed by a seven at the par four 12th although an eagle at the 14th and a birdie at the 16th helped him post three-under 70 to share third with Watson and Louis Boston (Stockwood Vale).
Watson was out in a best-of-the-day five-under 32 and looked well set until he also suffered a horror hole when he took eight at the unlucky par four 13th. Boston’s wayward tee-shot on the par three 18th over water cost him an expensive double bogey.
Ross Langdon (Brickhampton Court), who has played only occasionally this summer, and the prolific Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) shared sixth on 71.
O'Hanlon’s Masters Skips team of John Alton, Tom Crocker and Steve Churchill carded 21-under-par 93 points matched by Team Ginge led by Thompson including Jamie Tong, James Symmons and Stu Sulley.
Scott Drummond and the Turier Scales team of Nigel Newport-Black, Duncan Newport-Black and Kelly Brooks were third on 88.
