Obituary - Nicky Lynch

12/10/2016

Former Sutton Golf Club professional, Nicky Lynch, passed away on September 23 aged 79.

Nicky joined the famous north Dublin club at the age of 16 as an assistant to Joe Nangle.

When Joe passed away a few years later, Lynch was invited to become club professional and he remained in post until 2011.

A native of Malahide (Co Dublin), Nicky regarded it as a great privilege to have been associated with Sutton for so many years.

His devotion and service was recognised by the club and in 1993 a 'This is your Life' event was held to mark his 40th year in post.

Nicky won the Irish Dunlop Tournament in 1961 and 1963, and was runner-up in the Irish PGA Championship on four occasions, three times to Christy O'Connor and once to Ernie Jones. He also held the role of PGA in Ireland Captain in 1986.

The PGA extends sympathies to his wife Phyllis, his daughters Ann-Marie and Nicola, sons-in-law Paddy and Alan, grandchildren Christopher, Katherine, Nicky and Sarah, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends.
