Wayne O’Callaghan and Brian McElhinney (pictured above) each took a share of the spoils as the Tralee Pro-Am made its long-awaited return to the Irish calendar.
The pair carded four-under-par rounds of 68 to lead from Lisheen Springs’ Raymie Burns by two shots. The Brittas Bay based golfer was returning to The PGA in Ireland pro-am circuit after an extended lay off.
O’Callaghan, now based at Fernhill, Carrighaline, carded birdies at the first, second and ninth, with a bogey at eight, for a front nine of 34. He also posted two-under-34 from the return track.
On the back nine he made birdies at 14 and 17 plus a closing four at the long 18th and he bogeyed the short 16th.
McElhinney, a late finisher, took a level-par score of 36 to the turn. He balanced bogey fives at five and eight with a birdie two at seven and a four at the long ninth.
The Foyle player had no blots on the return trip with a birdie four at 11 plus a hat-trick of one-unders from 14 as he went 3-3-2.
Killeen's Brian Cosgrove and his partners won the team event with a score of 92 points, but the successful four had to rely on a countback to push Ian St John (Carrick-on-Suir) and his amateur partners into second place.
